The Dutch dykes breaking in the future?

For many years now the bad condition of the Dutch dykes is being described in my predictions and visions. Desperately crying out: “the dykes need to be raised and reinforced!”

“Dykes are likely to sink away and are weakened”, “Near the coast like in the vicinity of

Katwijk, The Hague, Scheveningen the situation is extremely dangerous. In a combination of springtide and storm, water will flow into the country which will be flooded’ etcetera.

The danger of dykes breaking increases every year. Water, water everywhere.

For every citizen in West Holland and Flanders goes: ‘Luctor et emergo’, I struggle and come up’.  Or will we all go down together?

Thankfully prince Willem Alexander has sounded the alarm. According to his Committee of Advice for Water the maintenance of the dykes is seriously overdue. Not enough money is being made available for maintenance, repair and raising of the dykes. The government doesn’t acknowledge the facts, doesn’t act adequately and does far too little to protect the Netherlands from the brutally rising water.

The Dutch government sends soldiers to Afghanistan, uses money to develop a military aircraft while no money is available for the necessary maintenance of the dykes.

West Holland and West Flanders will disappear beneath sea level if nothing happens very soon!

Shall we ask Brussels, in light of an united Europe, to help pay for the Dutch dykes and dams? Is Europe willing to pay even an eurocent? Or has Holland been written off already?

Europe probably thinks it a waste of money to repair the Dutch dykes. Perhaps they see this as destroying funds, some form of carrying water to the sea, throwing money in the water?

Or, according to secret European thinking, Holland is a drowned country already, written off and is not being rescued? The Dutch that are not yet drowned by then are simply being deported to the lower heights in Northern Germany, at least there is still space!

If we want to keep the Netherlands – it is unlikely to expect anything from Europe – we shall have to make do ourselves. Filling sandbags, organising fancy-fairs and use the money earned to raise, widen, reinforce en maintain our dykes……… We could also use the proceeds from attic sales. Or organise contests who has the most creative idea to generate money for the dykes. Mandatory labour in homes for the elderly? Those proceeds to the Afsluitdijk, for instance. Elderly people past eighty paying age-tax or permission to breathe? Those taxes could finance an extra dam near Katwijk. Or somewhere else, in the province Noord Holland, is also possible. Or should we reinstate child labour to generate money for the dykes?

Using the term ‘standards and values’ the people who govern us should stop and think of the next generation!

Now their position is more than clear. After us the Flood. Not too Christian.

Dutch government is not concerned about the dykes being badly maintained or not. For people in the government and their families there will always be an aircraft available or a ship ready to dock. No, just like always in history, the infantry will be the victim. Even if water rises to the lips, by definition for them it will be a question either to swim or to drown. Makes no difference.

From a psychological point of view it seems wise and sensible to issue a rubberboat to the people. At least this provides the citizen with the positive feeling that he will be able to survive a flood…. Or stimulate every citizen to obtain his swimming certificate?

Perhaps we should hold out attractive subsidies for people to learn swimming. With our swimming certificates against the wall we will all rest in a cozy feeling of certainty. Like: ‘let the water come. I can swim….’

The public is kept stupid and ignorant about the seriously dangerous situation concerning the dykes. Eighty procent of them might not be allright according to certain hard and scientific requirements.

There is no hydraulic engineer who will speak openly and absolutely truthful about the condition of the Dutch dykes. They are probably sworn to secrecy.

Or are associated with a polder board, departments for water maintenance etcetera. Are in fear of being fired and not being able to pay their mortgage any more. But over 10 million West may ‘quietly’ sleep and live on a watertimebomb.

The Dutch will have to rely on the media. Only the media will be able, through a story that really stands out, to motivate Dutch government people and if necessary shake them roughly awake. Methaphorically speaking teach them moral, standards en values. Commit them to thinking about the next generation and do something about the dykes! The media could, for instance, show the seriousness of the situation by an animated film. Showing a polderland filling like a tub with water that sweeps everything with it… At some place there will be a tub of 6 metres deep. Man and animal overcome with cold. Buildings slowly collapsing. And water in a polder is not pulling back by itself like a tsunami….

How many will be killed? At a burst at the coast near Amsterdam? Will we be able to count the dead by then? Is it even possible to express such grief in words? And what will be the costs of repairing the infrastructure, to rebuild houses and factories? Or is rebuilding a hopeless task? Holland will return to the situation like in the Batavian era. The sea will be able to flow freely.

The number of emigrating Dutch will steadily increase. In the near future this will run from 175.000 to 250.000 people. How many of those are subconsciously fleeing the fear of water? The collective subconscious may point out coming events like floods. Perhaps an issue for scientists to evaluate possible ‘flood-fear’ with emigrants?

Which (European) politician will recognize the serious situation concerning the Dutch dykes and dams? Everybody is concerned about terrorists. But in reality? Terrorist and Dutchman will drown together like brothers. Perhaps even desperately holding on to each other in going down together in the same vengeful, wild and vindictive water….

The Dutch government doesn’t exactly behave itself like a responsible land-agent. Will West Holland and Flanders, like the Titanic, be swallowed up by the water?

The situation is extremely critical and acute…! There is no time to waste, or is it already too late? ‘Water, water everywhere”… a terrible, horrible and hideous vision I have been carrying with me for decades…….. therefore I will never remain silent about this!  As long as I draw breath I will continue to warn. We are living on a timebomb where it concerns the dykes. 

Which official in the government has the courage to stay awake?

Or will every member of Parliament doze on and start moaning later on at the holes in the dykes…..

Predictions also exist to prevent them for coming true…….!

So that there will be no dykes breaking in the future! If the government sets aside at least 2 billion euros to repair, raise and reinforce the dykes and dams!

According to our minister of Finance we had a tax windfall of over 2 billion euros in 2006. Use it for the dykes without a second thought! 

And if that doesn’t happen? Then we should get used to the idea to get swallowed up, Dutch Lion and all, by the hungry and greedy water. This will however be a death in the poetic style of the polderland: ‘taken from water and returning to it..”

But? How wonderful, we all will be decorated with a badge from swimming certificate A, B, C or D…………
