The (human) brain has always fascinated
researchers. How is it possible that the
brain can process so much information in
so little time? During the last decades
neuroimaging techniques (ERP, PET and
fMRI) have made breakthroughs in the
field of conscious information
processing possible. However, the vast
majority of mental processes happen
outside our conscious awareness. These
unconscious processes remain a great
mystery.
In this multidisciplinary book, a theory
of unconscious information processing of
emotions will be presented. People
process most emotional information at an
unconscious level and this influences
our daily life. Interestingly, humans
even seem to process emotional
information before an event occurs. This
process might be an old evolutionary
warning mechanism that could be called:
“prestimulus information processing”. It
can be measured at an individual and at
a collective level. This discovery is of
great importance since unconscious
prestimulus processing could lead to the
development of terrorist attack- and
earthquake warning systems. Since the
discovery of human prestimulus
processing is new, it can be expected
that the theory discussed in this book
will be the start of a promising new
scientific field.
In the first three chapters of this
pioneering book, some relevant
background information on the fields of
neuroscience, evolution and emotion will
be presented. In chapter four, human
unconscious information processing and
the consequences in our daily life will
be discussed. In chapter five and six,
evidence for prestimulus processing at
the respectively individual and
collective level will be presented.
Then, in chapter seven, theoretical
explanations out of physics to explain
the shift in processing time will be
discussed. Finally, in chapter eight,
all these insights will be combined to
come to one final theory.
MAURITS VAN DEN NOORT is a young,
pioneering researcher, who studied
neuropsychology and social psychology at
the university of Nijmegen (the
Netherlands). In his scientific work he
combines knowledge of three different
areas: neurology, biology and physics.

theorie over onbewuste informatie
verwerking van emoties gepresenteerd.
Mensen verwerken veel emotionele
informatie op een onbewust niveau en dit
beïnvloedt ons dagelijks leven. Mensen
blijken zelfs al informatie te kunnen
verwerken voordat een gebeurtenis
plaatsvindt. Dit zou een oud
evolutionair waarschuwings mechanisme
kunnen zijn dat ‘prestimulus informatie
verwerking’ wordt genoemd. Dit kan zowel
op het individuele niveau als op
groepsniveau worden gemeten. Deze
ontdekking is van groot belang, omdat
deze kennis kan leiden tot de
ontwikkeling van waarschuwingssystemen.
Hierdoor kunnen mensen in de toekomst
wellicht voor terroristische aanslagen
en aardbevingen worden gewaarschuwd.
Omdat de ontdekking van ‘prestimulus
informatie verwerking’ nieuw is, valt te
verwachten dat de theorie, die wordt
besproken in dit boek, de start zal zijn
van een veel belovend nieuw
onderzoeksveld.
In de
eerste drie hoofdstukken van dit
baanbrekende boek wordt relevante
informatie gepresenteerd op het gebied
van neurowetenschap, evolutie en emotie.
In hoofdstuk vier wordt onbewuste
informatie verwerking bij mensen
besproken en de consequenties hiervan in
ons dagelijks leven. In hoofdstuk vijf
en zes wordt bewijs gepresenteerd voor
prestimulus informatie verwerking op
zowel het individuele niveau als op het
groepsniveau. In hoofdstuk zeven worden
theoretische verklaringen uit de
natuurkunde besproken die de
verschuiving in tijd zouden kunnen
verklaren. In hoofdstuk acht worden alle
inzichten gecombineerd om tot één
theorie te komen.
MAURITS
VAN DEN NOORT is een jonge, baanbrekende
wetenschapper. Hij studeerde
neuropsychologie en sociale psychologie
aan de Katholieke Universiteit Nijmegen.
In zijn werk combineert hij inzichten
uit drie verschillende wetenschappen te
weten: neurologie, biologie en
natuurkunde. Dit boek onderstreept de
creativiteit en competentie van deze
jonge wetenschapper van wie we in de
toekomst nog meer zullen gaan horen...
